Michael Cohen, MD

Michael CohenDr. Cohen is a board-certified plastic surgeon who specializes in aesthetic and reconstructive surgery of the breast, body contouring, and skin cancer reconstruction.

After graduating Harvard University with an honors degree in biochemistry, he attended Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, where he developed an interest in plastic surgery. Following medical school, Dr. Cohen spent six years training at Georgetown University, one of the nation’s premier residency programs for plastic surgery of the breast, where he trained under some of the world’s leaders in the field. After completing his residency, Dr. Cohen pursued an additional year of fellowship training with Dr. Bernard Chang in Baltimore.

Dr. Cohen is skilled in all current techniques of breast cancer reconstruction, including implant-based reconstruction, flap-based reconstruction, as well as oncoplastic breast reduction. He has extensive training and experience with breast augmentation, breast reduction, breast lifts, tummy tucks, as well as body contouring after massive weight loss.

Dr. Cohen provides his patients with the highest standard in plastic surgery. He is known for his artistic eye and perfectionism, his emphasis on patient safety and his ability to think outside the box when approaching clinical challenges. He believes that each patient’s situation is unique, and provides a highly individualized approach, taking the time to listen to the patient’s concerns and desires before explaining all the surgical options available and suitable for the particular individual.

Chris Nichols, MD

Chris Nichols, MDDr. Nichols is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon. He graduated with thesis honors in Biology from Florida State University. He went on to earn his MD from the University of Florida College of Medicine. He then trained in General Surgery at Columbia University's Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, NY. Ultimately, he completed his residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis in the Barnes-Jewish Hospital System.

Dr. Nichols founded Pearl Plastic Surgery in Tacoma in 2008, and the clinic subsequently joined Franciscan Medical Group in December 2010. Dr. Nichols has been proud to serve Tacoma and the surrounding communities in all areas of plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Dr. Nichols is passionate about breast reconstruction after cancer and is deeply committed to serving these patients. In order to best serve his patients he has limited his plastic surgery practice specifically to plastic and reconstructive surgery of the breast and body. He is actively involved in breast cancer care at CHI-Franciscan including the Breast Tumor Board and the Breast Oncology Steering Committee.

He also continues to serve the weight-loss patient community with body contouring surgery including: abdominoplasty, brachioplasty, thighplasty, lower body lifts, mastopexy, and lipocontouring.

Dr. Nichols is a diplomat of the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He is the current Vice President of the Washington Society of Plastic Surgeons, and a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery, Pierce County Medical Society and the American Medical Association. 

Emma Heidbreder, PA-C

Emma Heidbreder, PA-CEmma provides preoperative and post-operative care as well as surgical assistance and education for patients undergoing plastic and reconstructive procedures.

Emma’s passion is to provide her patients with comprehensive and personalized care to achieve the best outcomes. Her passion for patient care and health care training began when she worked with an oral and maxillofacial surgeon and continued through her physician assistant training at Stony Brook University. At Franciscan Emma continues to provide compassionate care, listening carefully to address all her patients’ concerns.

In her spare time Emma enjoys trail running, road trips, and preparing home-cooked meals for her friends and family.

Marie Zornes, ARNP

Marie ZornesMarie offers care for plastic and reconstructive surgery patients undergoing procedures as varied as breast reconstruction, body contouring and skin cancer excision. Marie takes into consideration each patient’s individual needs and cares deeply for the patients she serves.

Marie is a Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant (CRNFA) and a member of the Association of Operating Room Nurses.

In her off-hours, Marie enjoys combining her love for running and travel, and is a pace leader for marathons.
